Beyond their role in nationwide celebrations like Women’s Health Month and National Women’s Health Week, the flower and cosmetics industry is on a mission to curb chemical effects on women’s health and to encourage a sustainable lifestyle. They are seeking sustainable development not only for livelihood but also to improve the lives of people especially women.

I had the opportunity to interview Filth and Stessentials. Both brands are sustainable Brands, that are committed to providing products that bring the best out of their customers without causing harm to their health.

The interview started with Filth. Filth is a contemporary flower studio based in Brixton. They are involved in delivering bouquets weekly to areas in and around South London as well as Nationwide.

Filth was founded out of a desire to produce bold, architectural, highly creative floristry. Filth is rooted in a belief that floristry should be reimagined as another art form, which plays with color, texture, emotions, and shape.

The founder Rosy grew up in the iconic coastal town of Southwold and trained under Liz Mobbs, a local florist and flower farmer. Thereafter, She moved to London to set up Filth.

For Rosy, she strongly believes that women should buy more flowers for themselves rather than wait to be gifted one. And I totally agree with her, the joy one gets from having flowers around them can only be felt.

An important point from the interview with Filth is the way flowers uplift a space and add soothing effects to a woman’s mood. Here is the link to the full interview with Filth.

Afterward, I interviewed the founders of ST Essentials, Sheena and Temi. Although Sheena was not available, Temi shared with me that they were inspired to create ST Essentials, Cruelty-free Loose Pigments, and Body Shimmers to not only empower and embrace all individuals regardless of their skin tone, making you glow inside and outside.

But because they were extremely tired of Non-Inclusivity within the industry,  the exposure of harsh chemicals in Beauty Products that women were being exposed too and the limited Clean Beauty ranges available for Women of Colour, they wanted to formulate products that Evoked Positive Vibrations and Feelings that made Every Woman not only Feel Good on the Inside but look Good on the Outside too, so they Chose to go specifically for Clean Eco-friendly Cosmetics.

Do commercial makeup products have an effect on our health?

The ST Essentials’ commitment to the environment and its promise to cater to all, means that as women, we don’t have to compromise to look good and Feel Good.

The ST Essentials brand firmly believes in cruelty-free products, since this is the best way to build a healthier world. Not only for us but also for the other living beings that are around us. They source their products from manufacturers in Spain who are very big on sustainability.

ST Essentials is committed to providing sustainable makeup products.

To be honest, I think the innovation behind the ST Essential brand is great because as a woman of color, I struggle to find makeup products that can suit my skin and not irritate it as well. I highly recommend watching the interview with ST Essentials here. There are effective tips in this interview to pick out when buying your next cosmetics products.

Whilst some progress has been made to broaden makeup palettes, and offer more sustainable options, there is still a significant amount of work to be done.

This is becoming increasingly apparent not only as people become more health-conscious, but also with more attention being placed on the environmental crisis, as well as the abuse inflicted on animals by large cosmetic brands. Consumers want an alternative, but that shouldn’t mean a limited range of products or products that only cater to certain skin tones. When it comes to make-up, it shouldn’t be a compromise between feeling good and moral dilemmas.

Unlike other make-up brands, ST Essentials is committed to providing sustainable, refillable make-up options that allow you to feel good both inside and out while doing your bit for the planet.

One of the most pressing questions that have lingered in my mind after this interview is “Do you think that sustainable cosmetics products hold the key to preventing cancer?” I will like to hear your thoughts and opinions on this. Do leave a comment below.

Until next time, take care and keep a date with us to know who we will be interviewing on this women and health series.

Carina.
