As the definition of intellectual wellness is to actively participating in scholastic, cultural, and community activities. Remember, it’s important to gain and maintain intellectual wellness.  This is  because it expands your knowledge and skills in order to live a stimulating, successful life.  In order to improve your intellectual wellness, it is important to value creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning.

Maintaining intellectual wellness throughout our life keeps our mind stimulated, promotes creativity and leads to a happier, healthier you. It may even reduce the risk of brain decline or slow the onset of dementia symptoms. It is noteworthy that exercise for the mind is just as important as exercising the body. You’ve heard the saying, “use it or lose it.” That goes for the brain as well.

Here are six simple steps to increase your wellness…intellectually.

6 Ways to Increase Your Intellectual Wellness

  1. Read. Pick up a classic or the latest on the bestseller list. Have a topic you’ve always wanted to learn more about? Pick up the book or download on your tablet or computer. It’s the oldest and best brain exercise. It may be hard to do with your busy life, but try to find time during the morning, night, or weekend to sit down and read something for fun. Reading, especially something you enjoy, can improve your intellect by stretching your mind to think about things you normally don’t think about!

  2. DEBATE WITH A FRIEND.  (choose a viewpoint opposite the one you hold)
Sounds tricky, right? That’s the point! Did you know that a simple conversation counts as a brain exercise? Bring up a current event for a discussion with friends. Be prepared, to be open-minded.  And  you will realise that even if you don’t agree with their point of view, you are expanding your mind by having a lively discussion. As a result, you are hearing new ideas. Focusing attention on information that is different than your beliefs can improve intellectual wellness. Naturally, we tend to only focus our attention on opinions, beliefs, and facts that hold true to our viewpoints. When you expose the mind to opposing ideas, it expands the mind to grasp new information.

  3. Journal. Write down your thoughts or stories from throughout your life. Trust me, this is a great exercise for your brain, while also helping express feelings. It can even help improve your social wellness by providing a healthy outlet for your anxieties or frustrations. As a result, taking the time to write down thoughts can help with the struggle expressing your feelings . It is also helpful for anyone who is trying to make sense of what they are feeling. Being able to identify your feelings and understanding yourself more and your actions increase intellectual wellness by exposing your mind to deeper thinking.

  4. Play brain games.  Board games and cards are popularly known as leisure activities. As a result, these activities can also help with your intellectual wellness. The next time you have free time, pick up a deck of cards or pull out a board game and play! It makes no difference whether you are playing alone or you are playing with others. As long as your mind is thinking, improvements are being made. Grab a pencil and try your hand at sudoku or a crossword puzzle. Go online to Games for the Brain to find a large selection of challenging games such as Mastermind, Crime Scene, trivia, checkers, chess and more. You could even try a scrabble to improve your health if you’re feeling extra creative.

  5. Experience the arts. Attend and/or participate in cultural events. Music, the arts, dance and other cultural activities can help express creativity and stimulate your brain in new ways. Intellectual wellness is so closely tied to social wellness. Therefore, cultural events are a great way to boost your health in both areas while having fun at the same time. For instance, we all know music has a powerful impact on our minds. Playing a musical instrument can increase intellectual wellness by learning how to create sounds, make patterns, and emote through music. Any instrument can work to increase intellectual wellness. So, start today and take up a new hobby.

  6. Attend a lecture. Expose yourself to new ideas. Check out speakers at a local college or retirement community. Lifelong learning is key to maintaining an active, healthy brain.

The big deal is intellectual wellness helps keep your mind from becoming mush. Your brain needs to be exercise like other muscles in your body.

Futhermore, to stimulate your mind is more than continual learning. It’s having creative and stimulating mental activities that keeps the brain firing. Brain fitness helps to keep you better-rounded and mindful, too. Now is the best time you should start to help improve and maintain your mind.
